President Trump to Meet with Kim Jong-un, Maybe
According to a statement issued by the White House late yesterday, North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un is eager to meet with U.S. President Donald J. Trump to discuss North Korea’s denuclearization. President Trump has agreed to meet with Kim Jong-un by May. Kinda.
Briefing by South Korean National Security Advisor Chung Eui-Yong
The White House statement followed a briefing of President Trump by South Korean National Security Advisor Chung Eui-Yong. According to Mr. Eui-Yong, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he is committed to denuclearization. Mr. Eui-Yong also stated that Kim pledged North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests. He understands that the routine joint military exercises between the Republic of Korea and the United States must continue. And he expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible.

The statement was followed by an enthusiastic tweet by the President, echoing the sentiments of the South Korean National Security Advisor.
Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearization with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze. Also, no missile testing by North Korea during this period of time. Great progress being made but sanctions will remain until an agreement is reached. Meeting being planned!

Yes, but . . .
Predictably, the White House did a slight reversal during today’s White House Press Briefing. In response to mainstream media questions, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders stated “[w]e’re not going to have this meeting take place until we see concrete actions”.
We’re not going to have this meeting take place until we see concrete actions…
While the notion that only the current members of the nuclear club should be allowed nuclear weapons smacks of racism and hypocrisy, President Trump’s apparent enthusiasm for a possible peaceful resolution of the matter is encouraging, to say the least.
