Kushner Convenes White House Conference on Gaza
White House Hosts Conference on “Worsening Humanitarian and Economic Conditions in Gaza”
Yesterday, the White House hosted a conference “to discuss solutions to the worsening humanitarian and economic conditions in Gaza.” The conference, convened by White House Senior Advisor (their words, not mine) Jared Kushner, Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt, and members of the National Security Council (NSC) staff and the Department of State, was attended by representatives from the United Nations, the European Union, the Office of the Quartet, and the following countries: Bahrain, Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Qatar, Sweden, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
The Administration of President Donald J. Trump believes that deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza require immediate attention.
According to a statement released by The White House today, “[t]he Administration of President Donald J. Trump believes that deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza require immediate attention.” The statement further asserted that the Trump Administration sees addressing the conditions in Gaza as “a necessary step toward reaching a comprehensive peace agreement between the Israelis and Palestinians.” The conference built upon a meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, last week, and will carry ideas to the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting in Brussels, Belgium, at the end of the month.
No Palestinians at a Conference About Palestinian Suffering
While it is unusual for the The White House to even acknowledge the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, the Trump Administration’s stated concern over this ongoing issue rings hollow in light of the fact that no Palestinians were in attendance at this conference, nor appear to have been invited. President Trump’s decision to appoint his Zionist son-in-law, Jared Kushner, to head up the Administration’s efforts for an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, combined with Trump’s recent announcement to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and recent appearances by Vice President, Mike Pence, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, at the AIPAC conference, telegraph the true intentions of President Trump and his administration when it comes to the suffering of Palestinians at the hands of Israeli apartheid.
