What They Aren’t Telling You About the Michael Flynn Story

On Friday, President Donald Trump’s first National Security Advisor, retired Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, plead guilty to one count of “making false, fictitious or fraudulent statements” in a federal government investigation in violation of 18 U.S.C. 1001(a)(2). The mainstream media has been a buzz over the plea the last few days. But as with everything else regarding #RussiaGate, they aren’t telling you what you need to know. But before we get into that, we need to take a brief look at who Michael Flynn was before the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

Michael Flynn’s life before the 2016 Election

According to Michael Flynn’s Wikipedia page, he is a highly decorated career military man. He served for over 33 years in the U.S. armed forces, but he isn’t your typical right-wing, authoritarian, military-industrial-complex crony that you typically see orbiting Washington, D.C. He’s a lifelong registered Democrat and was nominated by President Barack Obama to be director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012. He’s also been publicly critical of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East.

Michael Flynn served as head of DIA until completely retiring from the U.S. military on August 7, 2014.

Just in Time for the Fall 2014 TV Season, Obama Brings Us “ISIS”

When Michael Flynn was resigning from his post as head of DIA in August of 2014, the Al Qaeda brand of boogie man was growing long in the tooth and the American people were growing tired of the never-ending “war on terror”.  Also in August of 2014, and just in time for the 2014 fall television season, President Barack Obama announced America’s new brand of boogie man, “ISIS”. With stories of the Yazidis, a religious minority, huddled on a mountain top in Iraq to avert the the clutches of ISIS, President Obama breathed new life into the open-ended war on terror.

Followed up by YouTube videos of “Jihadi John” beheading White Christians in the desert, the American people, especially the religious right, were whipped up into a lather. Our fearless, Nobel Peace Prize-winning President declared another “humanitarian mission”, like he did in Libya and the ISIS story arc of the war on terror kicked off a ratings boom for both the mainstream media and the military-industrial-complex.

Of course, the Yazidis in Iraq were quickly forgotten as the U.S. chased ISIS into Syria. The battle against ISIS quickly morphed into “Assad has to go”. The media ignored the fact that Syria was yet another country to reject the petro-dollar standard that found itself in the cross hairs of the U.S. war machine. But that’s another story altogether (see links at the bottom).

Flynn’s Public Criticism of U.S. Policy in Syria

ISIS, a very well organized and well-armed terrorist organization, seemed to come out of nowhere. At least, that’s how it was being sold to the American people by their government and by the American mainstream press. But Michael Flynn, now retired, started telling a different story. Flynn publicly criticized the Obama Administration for it’s support for the so-called “moderate rebels” in Syria against the Assad government. Specifically, Flynn stated on national television that the Obama Administration basically created what later evolved into ISIS.

More importantly, Flynn told Al Jazeera and RT that the creation of ISIS wasn’t an unintended consequence or poor policy by the Obama Administration. Rather, Flynn stated that he repeatedly warned the Obama Administration, while he was head of DIA, that U.S. support for the “moderate rebels” would create what became known as ISIS but the Obama Administration was okay with that outcome. Despite Flynn’s military credentials, he and his claims were largely ignored by most of the American mainstream press.

If you challenge the status quo, they’ll make you pay

The disparity in the treatment of Michael Flynn versus the treatment of, say, Hillary Clinton in the email server scandal in 2016 by the U.S. government indicates selective prosecution. The fact that somebody with Flynn’s resume was willing to stick his neck out to expose the fact that the U.S. government intentionally created ISIS, just as America was growing weary of war, provides plenty of motive for the government’s choice to prosecute Flynn and give Clinton a pass.

The fact that the mainstream media keeps overlooking these very important details about the Michael Flynn story underscores the argument that Flynn is being punished for challenging the status quo and its never-ending-war agenda. It also shows that the American mainstream media aren’t so much interested in reporting the truth as they are in propagandizing for the same never-ending-war agenda.
