Pompeo Unveils a “New” Iran Strategy
Pompeo Speaks at Heritage Foundation
Mike Pompeo made his first public address as U.S. Secretary of State this morning at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C. As was noted by Foundation President, Kay James, Secretary Pompeo has spoken at the Heritage Foundation before in 2015 while he was a U.S. Congressman. However the topic of his speech was the same then as it was today, trashing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a.k.a. “the Iran Deal”, as well as trashing Iran.
The Heritage Foundation is a self-described conservative think tank whose stated mission is to “formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.” (See links below).

In this speech, Secretary Pompeo laid out what he called “a new Iran strategy” for the Trump Administration. But Pompeo’s speech was not only a rehash of a speech he gave back in 2015 (by his own admission), but it was a rehash of the same, tired line that President Trump and his administration have been pushing since the 2016 campaign to con Americans into going along with yet another unprovoked war against a Middle Eastern country.
The “New” Iran Strategy
After spending several minutes parroting Trump’s long-standing, yet unsubstantiated, claims of how bad the Iran Deal was, Pompeo had the gall to repeat Trump’s citation of an Israeli report about Iran’s nuclear weapons program. This despite the fact that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) publicly rejected the Israeli report as providing no new information. After this attempt to legitimate the discredited Israeli report, Pompeo laid out the details of the Trump Administration’s so-called “new Iran strategy”. Here is the short version:
- Economic sanctions: “sanctions are going back in full effect and new ones are coming . . . [t]hese will indeed end up being the strongest sanctions in history when we are complete.”
- Look for or make up pretext to launch a war against Iran: “I will work closely with the Department of Defense and our regional allies to deter Iranian aggression.”
- Apply the Obama doctrine of attacking countries for “humanitarian reasons”: “[W]e will also advocate tirelessly for the Iranian people. The regime must improve how it treats its citizens. It must protect the human rights of every Iranian.”

But wait, there’s more! Pompeo then proceeded to lay out America’s terms if Iran wishes to avoid the wrath of the United States. The new Secretary of State made out a laundry list of twelve “basic requirements”. I’ve linked the press release below which includes the list, but basically it’s geared towards two things: (1) painting Iran as a threat to the Middle East and the world like the U.S. did to Iraq for the purposes of, (2) establishing pretext for an all out, unprovoked war against Iran, just like the U.S. did with Iraq.
The World War III Script
Meanwhile, according to Haaretz, Russia, China and Europe are working on a new Iran deal of their own to the exclusion of the United States. This all plays into a larger plan to drag humanity into another world war, but this time the U.S. is going to play the role of Germany. For those of you who may not remember, Germany lost both World War I and World War II. That’s the intended fate of the United States if ruling cabal can get us into World War III.
