COVID-19: Only 6% of Reported U.S. Deaths Attributable to Virus Alone – CDC Update

According to the August 26, 2020 weekly update to the CDC’s “Provisional Death Counts for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)”, only 6% of U.S. deaths reported as involving COVID-19 were attributable to the virus alone. “For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death,” according to the CDC website. That means 94% of the official U.S. COVID-19 death tally involved not only some other condition or cause of death, but an average of 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death.

For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death.

According to reporting by the Gateway Pundit, that means only 9,210 American deaths can be attributable to COVID-19 alone. According to the CDC the data represents totals for the period 2/1/2020 to 8/22/2020.

One additional note. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the total U.S. population was an estimated 330,161,644 people as of 8/22/2020. Based on the Gateway Pundit calculation, that means COVID-19 alone has killed 0.003% of the U.S. population so far. Furthermore, all U.S. deaths involving a COVID-19 diagnosis, 153,504 people as of 8/22/2020, equals about 0.05% of the total U.S. population.
