Federal Govt Will Not Support Vaccine Passport – Psaki

During a routine press briefing today, Press Secretary Jen Psaki indicated an apparent shift in the Biden Administration’s position regarding a national vaccine passport system. In response to a question from the White House Press Corps regarding federal government support for vaccine passports Psaki stated, “the government is not now, nor will we be supporting a system that requires Americans to carry a credential.” The press secretary also stated that there will be no federal vaccinations database or federal mandate requiring everyone to obtain a vaccination credential.

This announcement indicates a shift from recent statements by President Joe Biden that seemed to support the implementation of a vaccine passport system similar to those being rolled out in other parts of the world, like the UK and Israel. The announcement comes on the heels of a growing number of state governors publicly announcing opposition to, some even issuing executive orders prohibiting enforcement of, any state-mandated vaccine passport.
